SAFEGUARDING INFORMATION

THE CLUB

Welcome to Woking Town FC

We are a community football club run by volunteers who are passionate about providing a safe and welcoming environment for all boys and girls from the age of 4 to 18.

We promote respect between all players, officials and spectators and have an ethos of being supportive and inclusive.

Woking Town Football Club has been serving the local community since 1977, starting life as Woking Boys Club and developing through intermediate stages to its current day identity.

The Club registered as a charity in the name of Woking Boys and Girls Club operating as Woking Town Football Club in May 1986 and remains dedicated to football and currently has over 350 players across the age groups.

Our longstanding key facilities partners include Woking College, Eastwood Leisure Centre, St John The Baptist  School,  Winston Churchill School, Woking High School and Woking Council/Freedom Leisure.

Our coaching is led by SkillZone, our professional football coaching partner.

Our charitable objective is defined in our Constitution as "to provide and encourage recreation and leisure time activities and occupations for boys and girls who reside in or near Woking, with the aim of improving their conditions of life".

In furtherance of this objective our Trustees and Officers are aware of the Charity Commission's guidance on Public Benefit and plan activities accordingly.

We run a Benevolent Fund providing financial support to enable children who may be socially excluded due to difficult circumstances to participate in our football programme and is administered in strict confidence.

The focus of our coaching activities, targets the development of our players football, team and interpersonal skills. This starts with basic skills development for our youngest players, continues through our mini soccer age groups with increasing skills training and progresses to youth football with more intensive training and competitive match play.

Woking Town FC Philosophy

How We Play

  1. We believe in streaming kids with the intention of allowing them to play with other players of the same ability
  2. Players taken to matches should play a minimum of 50% of the match
  3. Play in different positions to help their development and growth
  4. Win with modesty and lose with good grace

Coaches Values

  1. Work on education and personal development – use sports to develop decision making, problem solving abilities, life skills, social interaction and teamwork
  2. Teach players the importance of being positive, having a good attitude and staying fit and healthy
  3. Instil the correct attitude, teach players to be respectful and disciplined
  4. Encourage players to take calculated risks to improve and never fear failure
  5. Develop these young adults, build their confidence through coaching and sport
  6. Embrace the values of the club and always set a good example to the children
  7. Create a transparent environment and engagement with parents and ensure decisions are communicated well and clearly if changes are made. Act fairly.

Players Values

  1. Winning is not the most important thing – it is secondary to the spirit in which the game is played
  2. Respect opponents, referees, coaches and their team-mates
  3. Reject bad conduct, cheating, bullying, violence and any form of discrimination
  4. Be competitive but also enjoy playing the game
  5. Teamwork - work as a team and encourage their team-mates
  6. Show a positive attitude and work ethic
  7. Show sportsmanship, help and encourage team-mates.
  8. Be well behaved, listen and learn from the coach’s advice

Parents DNA

  1. Always be positive with your Children and the team
  2. Encourage teamwork and a positive attitude in your child
  3. Let the coaches do the coaching on match days
  4. Work with coaches on decisions made about the playing ability of your children – some changes may be good for the players development
  5. If you have ideas or concerns approach the coach at the end of the match
  6. Appreciate and recognise good play from the opposition

Club DNA

  1. Provide a safe and supportive environment for football with good facilities
  2. Measure the club’s success by the improvement of each individual player and team. The FA’s Four Corner model (Technical, Psychological, Physical and Social) will be used as a reference
  3. At all times respect, teamwork and sportsmanship will be expected from our players, coaches and parents outside of the club, during both training and match days. Empathy, encouragement and wellbeing are the club’s priority.

An FA Charter Standard Development Club

Launched in 2001, The FA Charter Standard Programme supported by McDonald’s is The FA’s accreditation scheme for grassroots clubs and leagues.

Its goal is to raise standards in grassroots football, support the development of clubs and leagues, recognising and rewarding them for their commitment and achievements.

With this in mind, The FA Charter Standard accreditation is awarded to clubs and leagues rigorously adjudged to be well-run and sustainable – and which prioritise child protection, quality coaching and implementation of the Respect programme.

As an FA Charter Standard Development Club, we operate to the highest standards set by the FA for youth football clubs. We take the FA Charter and Development Standards very seriously, and all players, managers, coaches and spectators are expected to adhere to our codes of conduct and to the FA Respect guidelines.

We are 100% committed to supporting the FA’s plans for the development of youth football, and have led the way in implementing the proposals within the FA plan.

RESPECT

We support The FA's Respect policy and require all our officials, players, parents and spectators to promote good behaviour and respect each others views and decisions.
